Many cases of breast cancer can be completely cured with early and effective treatment involving one or more of the following treatment methods:

Surgery :

Surgery is usually the first line of attack against breast cancer. Depending on your specific situation you may have breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy), mastectomy, and lymph node dissection

We also offer breast reconstruction which is the rebuilding of the breast after surgery. Reconstruction can take place at the same time as cancer-removing surgery, or months to years later. Some women decide not to have reconstruction or opt for a prosthesis instead.

Chemotherapy:

Chemotherapy is designed to destroy cancer cells in the body, including cells at the original cancer site and any cancer cells that may have spread to other parts of the body. In many cases, a combination of two or more medicines will be used as chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.

Chemotherapy is used to treat:

  • early-stage cancer to destroy any cancer cells that may be left behind after surgery
  • advanced-stage breast cancer to destroy cancer cells as much as possible

Radiation Therapy:

Radiation is a very effective way of destroying cancer cells in the breast that may remain after surgery. Radiation therapy is relatively easy to tolerate and its side effects are limited to the treated area. Modern radiotherapy systems such as IMRT and IGRT enable targeted radiation that delivers just enough radiation in the most accurate way to minimize damage to healthy tissue.

Hormonal Therapy:

Some kinds of breast cancers thrive on some hormones produced by the ovaries. Blood tests will indicate if the patient will benefit from hormone therapy. This therapy is started only if tests show that the patient will benefit.

Hormonal therapy medicines treat such breast cancers in two ways:

  • by lowering the amount of the hormone estrogen in the body
  • by blocking the action of estrogen on breast cancer cells

Targeted Therapies:

This therapy attacks specific characteristics of cancer cells, such as a protein that allows the cancer to grow rapidly. Targeted therapies are less likely than chemotherapy to harm normal, healthy cells. Some targeted therapies are antibodies that work like the antibodies made naturally by our immune systems. These types of targeted therapies are sometimes called immune targeted therapies.
